Lemon Meringue Pie Murder

Lemon Meringue Pie Murder

Hello there my bookish friends!

I finished Lemon Meringue Pie Murder by Joanne fluke last week, this is the fourth book in the Hanna Swensen series. If you are new here, this is my absolute favorite cozy mystery series. That is probably a biased opinion since it was the first one that I read.

Hannah assumed that she had a grip on her life, that is until Norman called to tell her that he was going to build their dream house. Hannah was shocked since her ring finger was still bare. Before tearing the house down Hannah and her mother went to look at all of the antiques. But they found much more, a dead body. Now Hannah has to figure it out so Norman can build their house.

This was the perfect book to read before the Fourth of July because that was the theme of this book. I really enjoyed this book, I got to know more about the characters and feel more connected to them. I found the twists and turns of knowing who the killer was and why they did it was so much fun for me. The ending was a huge cliff hanger, now I feel as if I have to read the next installment as soon as possible.

I give this 4.5 stars. If you haven’t read this series I recommend it.

The Secret Women

The Secret Women

Can I just send a cheers to all strong women!

If you are looking for a book that will pull at your heartstrings and still fill you with happiness then I highly recommend The Secret Women by Sheila Williams. I finished this book within a week last week that how phenomenal it was.

Three women become fast friends after a yoga class and margaritas at a local restaurant. I was initially drawn to the cover of this book because it is so pretty, but once I started reading I was drawn to all three women. I love how they became such a great support system for each other when they live completely different lives and didn’t formally know each other outside of their weekly yoga class. I found myself aww-ing at certain parts of this story that how invested I became in these characters. They each couldn’t handle what was troubling them alone and with the help of the others, they battled and conquered their fears. Two things you can take away from this book are how women are great at uplifting each other when handling things alone just won’t cut it. everyone needs a great set of friends to help them with life struggles and to help them navigate how to be able to move on and succeed in life. The second is that sometimes you don’t have to have similar backgrounds with someone for them to be a friend.

I liked this book so much I will be going to pick up a hard copy it was published last week! Truly great read, I give it 4 stars.

A little shop in Cornwall

A little shop in Cornwall

Please forgive me, I finished this little gem at the end of May but the beginning of June was a doozy.

The Little Shop in Cornwall by Helen Pollard was a very delightful book.

Synopsis: Claudia is the owner of a new age shop in Cornwall. Very different from her life two years before, and she was happy with the change her new life brought. Jason and Millie Craig move into this tiny town into a house right off of the beach, Millie’s mother and Jason’s beloved wife Gemma passes away of cancer. Jason sees it as a fresh start for his daughter. Millie absolutely loves Claudia’s shop and they become fast friends leaving Jason in the dust scratching his head. Someone else moves into town and upsets Claudia and the other residents.

I just want to say that I am not a romantic-comedy person, but I could not put my kindle down! It was so delightful the perfect beach read for your summer. It has a mixture of romance comedy and some light drama. The story telling was very descriptive and made me add Cornwall to the places I’d like to visit. This book reminds us that opposites attract. She believes in crystals for healing and meditation. He doesn’t understand the point of listening to the sound of your breathe. I truly hope there is a sequel it was that good.

I give this book 4 stars. This book comes out on June 15. Please go pick it up guys!

Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter

Hey there guys! Last week I think we all took some time off to have some personal reflection time. We took a break from social media and daily post. I also took some time off. For the first time I had a schedule of all of my posts and now I will be posting them a little later then normal and that will be fine. I would like to take this time to say THANK YOU. I feel so appreciated in this community. As a black book blogger I came into this a little uneasy. I had a lot of self doubt and still do a tad. Will people read my content? Will I be a likeable person, are all questions I ask myself before I post anything. I am learning and growing because of all of you. I also want to read more books from POC. As a black blogger I feel as if I have to try harder and really prove myself to this community. I have to stand out and it is hard to get noticed. This makes me very critical of myself and my work, that makes me stop posting or takes me a long time to post. That is a habit I am breaking today. I am just thankful and glad you all accept me. I a appreciate you.

Have a great week guys! And remember reading is like day dreaming with your eyes open. XOXO

Ravenclaw all the way!

Ravenclaw all the way!

Have you ever needed a comfort read after reading a book that put you in a weird space? After reading the last book I read, I really needed something that would put me in a good mood. I am not quite yet ready to read the next book in the Hannah Swenson series so I decided to crack open Harry potter and the scourers stone.

It has been awhile since I have read these books and boy did I forget how good they are! I think after so many books I will read these again. I have the illustrated copies so it was so much fun reading these!

Italian beaches and unfinished business

Italian beaches and unfinished business

Beautiful ruins by Jess Walters is about a young ambitious day dreamer in a small village off an Italian coastline. His whole world is flipped upside down when a beautiful american actress comes to stay in his hotel by accident. Or was it fate? Is she dying? Is this what all american movie sets are like?

Flash to fifty years later hes not so young, but still as ambitious as he was in his younger days. In search of his beautiful american woman and a need to make things right.

This novel starts off so well and entraps you in the life of Pasquel and Dee Moray. I wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t do it for me. Sadly some of the chapters seemed to drag on, and there were to many characters to keep track of and how they were significant in the story. I lost interest halfway through the book, but kept reading to see what happened in the end. I can only blame my curiosity for that. I did really like the ending it makes your heart happy but I wish we could have skipped some things to get there. I give it three and a half stars.

April Book Mail

April Book Mail

Hello, and happy Wednesday this post will be about my latest book mail. These are two books I ordered early this month from Barnes and Noble. I have to be honest I did just dive into Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walters, I have to put myself on a reading schedule and give myself a time limit on each book. The novel is a gripping story about a group of people dealing with turbulent times in their life while at the same time holding onto their dreams. I believe at one point in all of our lives we have experienced something like this in our life. This isn’t normally my type of read, but I am enjoying the story so far. The second book I picked up is apart of Joanne Fluke’s cozy mystery series involving Armature sleuth Hannah Swenson. This is the fourth installment in the series, and one of my favorite authors to read from. I can not wait to dive into that book either! I hope everyone is having a fantastic week, and always remember reading is like dreaming with your eyes open. And how cute is this mug! It is one of my favorites, who else is a mug addict?
Xoxo

Covid-19

Covid-19

Hello all you cool cats and kittens! Lol if you do not know where that is from where have you been this whole quarantine?!? I just wanted to stop in and say that I put reading Blueberry Muffin Murder on hold due to Covid-19 I was working and trying to stay safe. I was recently laid off and fell into a Netflix hole. Jane the virgin was a great show! I am 4 episodes away from the series finale! But I am back onto my regular reading schedule and should be finished with the book tomorrow. It is getting very good we now have two murders and a love triangle. Joanne Fluke is an excellent writer and this series is very captivating and a non stop page turner. But while I read I am asking that everyone stay home and stay healthy and safe with your family.

Blueberry Muffins And Kombucha

Blueberry Muffins And Kombucha

Hello and happy Monday beautiful people! Ready to start the week or did you need an extra day to get it together? I am one of those people. I felt myself really wanting a nap yesterday and I am not a nap person, but it felt really nice.

What are we reading?

The book that I am currently indulging is is Blueberry Muffin Murder by Joanne Fluke. This is book number three in the Hanna Swensen series. It is time for the annual Lake Eden winter carnival, lifestyle maven and TV personality Connie Mac has the honor of creating the carnival cake inside of the Cookie Jar. Connie Mac comes into town bossy and bad tempered, until Hanna walks into the Cookie Jar to find the cake burnt and Connie on the floor dead. Now the Cookie jar is a crime scene and Hannah is looking for a killer again.

If you are not familiar with Hannah Swensen and the Cookie Jar where have you been? She is a charismatic curly red head with a bakery in her small hometown of Lake Eden Minnesota. I feel in love with this cozy read when I stumbled upon book one on a random trip to the Barnes (Barnes and Noble) and have been hooked ever since. Not only do I find myself wanting to help Hannah but I also want to try the cookie recipes that you find in the book.

I been drinking I been drinking

Healthade Kombucha in Passion Fruit-Tangerine. It has a tangy tangerine and passion fruit flavor

I fell into kombucha around November of last year and I have no regrets. I can really taste the tangerine in the drink. When first opening the bottle you smell the passion fruit and your first thought is that it is going to be overpowering, but it is not at all. Kombucha is great for gut health, I love how I feel after drinking about of this.

I cannot wait to really dive into this book and give you guys my thoughts but do not be afraid to read along with me and share your thoughts. So grab a bottle of Booch or drink of preference and go to Lake Eden and have a cookie or two.
