December Wrap Up

Happy New Year Bookatafriends!!!

I’m excited for all of the books I plan on reading this year. I’m starting the year off reading The Wife upstairs and it’s not what I expected and I’m so into it.

I didn’t read much in December but I read such great books to make up for it.

Favorite Books of 2020!

Favorite Books of 2020!

What a year this has been. But I’m grateful for books and all of you here in this space. Talking about books and reading really made 2020 less stressful.

I read some great books and some not so great books this year. I also acquired a long list of books that I’ll have to read thanks to all of you 😂😂

These are my favorite books of the year. One is missing it’s on my kindle. My list is as follows:

• Becoming by Michelle Obama- She’s just amazing.

• A Spell For Trouble by Esme Addison -Cant wait for the next book in the series

• A Good Neighborhood- So many emotions and that ending is still with me.

• Beach Read by Emily Henry – I loved everything about this one

• Anxious People by Fredrik Backman- so well written

• In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren -it was so cute and I’m a sucker for anything holiday related

• The Year Shakespeare Ruined My Life by – My first YA read and I really enjoyed it

• Charming Falls Apart by – This was a wonderful read, is now one of my favorite authors

I’m excited for all the books I plan on reading in 2021. I have enough books that I am going to continue my no buy ban. Unless bookstagram makes me have to break that 😂😂😂.

Happy New Year to all of you!

✨The Tourist Attraction✨

✨The Tourist Attraction✨

My last book of 2020 was The Tourist Attraction by Sara Morgenthaler.

Synopsis: When Gram Barnett named his diner The Tourist Trap, he meant it as a joke. Now he’s singing reindeer dogs to an endless parade of resort visitors who he couldn’t be bothered with. Two weeks in Alaska is the top item for Zoey Caldwells bucket list. An act of kindness brings Zoey into Grams world and she finds there more to the grumpy local than meets the eye.

I absolutely enjoyed this book so much! It was a great read to finish the year with. It gave me all the feels. Do I think it was predictable, yes did I enjoy that, absolutely. I felt like this was a hallmark movie but in boom form. It gave me romance, comedy and at some points I said “I knew that would happen”. This was a total booksta made me do it and I have no regrets. I didn’t realize this was a series so now I’ll have to read the others to see what happens next with these crazy kids!

Last Current Next

Last Current Next

Christmas is right around the corner and I can’t stop singing Christmas songs. Does anyone else just enjoy this time of year way to much 😂😂

I’ve always wanted to do this challenge and it seems fitting for it to be how I end the year.

🧁 Last is Sprinkle With Murder- Such a light and fun read

🎄 Current is In A Holidaze- This has been all over bookstagram and I’m really enjoying it

🎿 Next is The Tourist Attraction- Another bookstagram made me do it but I’ve really gotten into romance books.

QOTD: Have you read any of these?

✨Home Before Dark ✨

✨Home Before Dark ✨

After taking a book hiatus..( very unplanned) I finished home before dark over the weekend!

This is my first Riley Sager book and I enjoyed all the twist and turns he threw at me. I saw this book all over the gram and figured it would be the perfect october book to read and wasn’t disappointed.

Synopsis:

I liked how the book told the story of the present and the past it gave so much perspective and intrigue to the story. Again the twists and turns really got me, right when I think I’ve solved the mystery and it’s over something happens to throw that theory into the trash. I also enjoyed that even though it was a thriller the main character kind of ended her story on a happy note sort of (besides the stuff with her mom). As someone who gets startled by her own shadow I felt that this book wasn’t as scary 👻 as I’d pictured. I can’t wait to read more by Riley

The Night Swim

The Night Swim

Wow 😯 this book is… I don’t think I can describe it in one word.

I just finished The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

Synopsis: After the first season of her true crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall is now a household name. But she’s used to being recognised for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help. The small town of Neapolis is being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. The town’s golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping a high school student, the beloved granddaughter of the police chief.

😡🤬🤯☹️😭 (these sum up all of my feelings about this book.

Besides the the topic being rape I really enjoyed this book. The mystery of putting together all of the pieces and wondering what really happened was enjoyable. The story of both women is very gut wrenching but I liked how it switches between two women with similar experiences that will be forever linked to a small town. The ending threw me for a loop. If you’ve been thinking about adding this to your TBR and don’t mind heavy topics such as rape and suicide then I suggest picking this one up.

Happy Thursday

Happy Thursday

I’m currently reading The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

It is a tough one I’ll admit, I had to watch Zootopia last night before bed just to put my mind at ease. I am loving it but I am angry and sad all mixed together. I can’t wait to finish it tomorrow.

I hope you guys are having a great week! 😄

Book Review

Book Review

Synopsis: Alison Green desperate valedictorian wannabe, agrees to produce her schools production of. Midsummers Night’s Dream. That’s her first big mistake. The second is accidentally saying yes to a date with her oldest best friend, Jack, even though she’s crushing on Charolette. Allison must cope with the misadventures that befall the play if she’s going to survive this year

I really enjoyed this book! It was so funny and a light read. I enjoyed how the main character had a coming of age moment at the end of the book. She spent the whole year really trying to figure out who she was, while being a senior in high school. And let’s be honest senior year of high school is not always very easy. The book flowed very well and kept me highly entertained throughout the whole thing. I would definitely recommend this if you want something light.

Currently reading and Coffee

Happy Thursday guys! This week has felt long yet gone by quickly for me.

At the moment I’m reading two books, Night Swim by Megan Goldin also The Year Shakespeare Ruined My Life by Dani Jansen

Both are really good and opposite of each other which is perfect since Night Swim is kind of heavy.

Have a great day
